Would this work on a ender 3 pro

clusternova

Any thoughts on the overal adhesion of the print?

Art Cotto

Hi there, I'm new to all this of 3D Printing, Last week I got my Monoprice Select Mini V2, and I was wondering where could I find info about best settings for printing speed/quality - I will be printing on PLA - and Thanks in advance -

Great informative videos thank for all your hard work creating these great videos...

P.D. I'm an Architectural designer and 3d modeler with a lot of experience using a variety of 3d software for architectural illustrator, and my goal is been able to print little scale of my designs.

Thanks DrVax

ice godd

Ender5 have another big iusse: bed wobbel, but it's easy too fix it. (thingiverse) less wobbel = better quality.

CHEP

I don’t understand how you are actually printing that fast unless you reflashed the firmware. The stock firmware extruder is limited to 25mm/s and acceleration limited to 500. I believe jerk is only 10. Seems like those would limit your speed or ability to maintain that speed. Just curious how you actually tested the speed?

hoggif

Acceleration, jerk and maxinum speed from firmware defaults can limit real printing speed. I tried up to 250mm/s for infill with good results. However, I noticed the firmware has a default limit of 200mm/s if my memory serves well.
Similarly acceleration affect what speed you can get up to. I think you need long edges to get up to a good speed. In preview I noticed my "quick and dirty 100mm/s" settings rarely used maxinum speed in smaller prints.

Renato Campos

I would like to see you pushing for even faster speeds until you loose quality.

darkracer125

04:52 anyone who has this is a complete retard and has no idea what he is doing.

Swami Human

Great video, AGAIN! Thx.

Tanya Taylor

Thank you very much for this. Great delivery, clear and concise.

Klimas Tech

Hi can you sendme link to CURAsetings for Ender5 Print Profile ? I want tested your setings :)

E B

Thanks for the video. This setting is very good for solid objects. what about curvy shapes with a lot patterns and holes on the surface?

TeJoTa Tiro Esportivo

hi vax, nice to meet our channel, so, what velocity ou used in jerk control? the standard velocity in cura are 8m/s all, so what ou used? thks alot

TheLightSpeed! !

Hey. I’m not sure a Ender 5 has the ability to move at a 100mm/s. I heard the print speed is a target speed, and the printer speeds up and depending on the length of the run may never hit the target speed? So short movements essentially just go a little faster.

I wonder what this would do on a large print?

DrVax

I have received valuable comments about this video. After reading these comments, I believe I overstated the impact of the Slicer settings on speed and understated the impact of printer hardware and firmware. I am doing a bit of additional research and testing, and I will be posting a follow-up video explaining what I have learned. Thank you to everyone that commented.

A fact I did not make clear is that Slicer estimates are just estimates, and as they say in automobile ads, "your mileage will vary." In my experience slicers generally underestimate print times, often significantly. I find the Slicer estimates directionally accurate but not reliable.

The slicer settings I highlighted in this video will impact print time and quality but not as much as we would like. Several comments indicated that firmware in a 3d printer would limit the impact of Slicer settings. Slicers have the ability with M203, M204, and M205 G-code commands to override firmware values. I will cover this in more detail in the video "Faster 3d Prints, Part Two, Slicers Lie."

still a little slow but if you do stock than yes. You can print with some upgrades up to 300mm/s

John Kelley

That is incredible print quality! Would these modifications work on the Ender 3? Thanks for sharing this neat information.

R. van Houten

Could you share the C920 mount with us? :D

L3D - 3D maker

nice! it makes me happy that people are starting to pick up speed!!! I have a high flow hotend (Nova) and do like 150-200mm/s on the regular with a bed slinger! could push it to 300 at .24 layers and it would manage

wordreet

This is super interesting once again Doc. I've been slowly chugging along with my new Ender 5 for a week or so now. My main, initial plan for a large-ish print is some bed supports in carbon fibre PLA. I've already printed that Z axis lead screw stabilizer bracket, but then I thought, hmm, and I altered it on Tinkercad to accept an 8x12x8 needle-roller bearing, as I don't think the PLA will last too long, even though the L/S rotates relatively slowly.

ColinWatters

One tip I didn't notice you mention is the line width. This does not have to the same as the nozzle diameter. For example I have had acceptable results with line width set to 0.52mm using a 0.4mm nozzle. Cura allows you to set different line widths for outer walls, inner walls and infill. This can make a difference if your print has lots of wall and not much infill (eg something with a lot of thin strips). The only issue is that this also means the extruder needs to push out more filament. If your extruder starts skipping steps that's a sign you are near the limit of what your extruder can do.

Boss Tweed

This is awesome thank you, do you use these setting all the time now?

L3D - 3D maker

nice video, finally someone understands that we want FAST prints!
but there's a problem with your setup, the mainboard
you can't possibly print fast on a normal 8-bit board, you are pretty limited in the processing power and the maximum step pulses/s it can manage
if you truly want speed you should either get a 32 bit board, or the better option, install klipper firmware on it
I have my printer running klipper and it can manage 5000 acceleration and 500mm/s with ease (in term of driving steppers, frame doesn't allow such accelerations normally I run it around 2K)
the ender 5 with klipper and a very good high flow hotend like the Nova or volcano should be able to run 200mm/s+ @ 2000+ acceleration if you bolt it down and add some corner braces

Tom Herd

Interesting suggestions and I will have to try out some I have yet to use. I had a Tevo Tornado which died electronically and was replaced with a Sovol 01 printer. It is making better prints but much slower. I tried to print a large object like a T Square fast on the Sovol and it failed due to the jerking you mentioned of the bed. At any rate that now I have invested int 2 printers if I was aware of the modifications one has to add to the $300 printers I think I would have saved and bought the Prusa in the first place. Most reviews have indicated it is a very good solid machine.

Henrik Lagercrantz

Hi DrVax and thank you for your informative videos! I have been having some trouble with trying to cut print-times and realised when following your video that I could not get your results in the new Cura 4.6.1. Using your exact settings I get 2h 12 min on new Cura. Downloading Cura 3.6 that I think you were using here I got 1h 20 min for the cat.

Does anyone know where Cura has added some of these new time-delays?

Maher Alsayid

My printer is slower than the time shown in cura, the time on cura is 1hour 8min the printer finish in 1:20 on 0.15mm hight.
what's causing that?
Thanks

MPenzlin

Jerk control = off is a very good trick.
Thanks from Hamburg/Germany

I'm new given this video has errors what video should I watch? Thank you

Nice Shirt Booooooi

Jay Jagpal

The transition at 1:32 was seamless - I'm calling it out as VFX

Ash Weber-Campbell

I'm sorry this was really great but you seem really creepy in the intro

Ben K

You should totally export your cura profile and save it to gDrive or something and link in the description.

KiR-3d

Hi, all!
5:00 - this detail can cause z-wobbling if the lead screw isn't ideal.
I've bought Capricornus tube (it's a cheap clone) and it helps pretty much!

Ole Urgast

The bowden not helps so much in weight moving y, because there ist the stepper for x-movement mounted at the x-axis. I would prefer ultimaker-style there.

Holding z is not a good idea: holting it at top and bottom means any slight wrong adjustment will transfer into the print (3 points: motor, nut and top holder is one to much: a line is defined by two points). To avoid z moving down than powered of: leadscrew T8 pitch 2 (400mm) instead of stock T8 pitch 8. Also POM nut pitch 2 instead of the brass anti-backslash on. Also means 1 fullstep equals 0.01 mm in z (instead 0.04), much better for 0.1mm and 0.15 mm layer hight (and also for auto-mesh-bed-leveling).
I did that mod - definitly worth it. less than 10€ - and the bed does not move even if you push hard. But it moves smooth if the z-motor moves, of course.

Caglar Gul

Weird flex but usefull information

Markus Allport

These tips really helped me enormously! I have been struggling with settings for some time, and this video greatly improved my print times. I have not noticed improved print quality because of the higher temps, and no deviance from my prints except they print much faster. They are much smoother and usable. Really appreciate this info, thank you!

wayneuk

why bother with infill use a extra shell

Thoughts Feeder

The Z screw holder can be a really bad idea if you do not have the screws perfectly positioned, as it will bend the screw, instead of keeping it in place.

Anothercg Gmail

I do 150mm/s. Any less then I don't bother printing.

Boris Gazibara

Hahaha, crazy, first I like, then I take a look on your video. :) Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I always enjoy watching your videos.

George Coburn

Hi there DR Vax. Interesting video. I was wondering what the difference was between your Cura calculated print times, and the actual print time. As you're likely aware, slicers tend to be generous with their print estimates and when it comes to the actual print times they can be 60 to 80 percent longer. I use Octoprint with PrintTimeGenius plugin which is incredibly accurate in the actual print time calculations.

tyler prince

Might not wanna put the words jerk and off so close togeater. Pro tip ?

wayneuk

turning off jerk control its still in the firmware on the board !

Whitebelt

Great content! You really put the science into printing

henry rummins

Good info as always Dr Vax.

Thomas Andersson

Going nuts trying to tune my Ender 5 Plus, I can get rid of ghosting fairly easy, but no matter what I do I can NOT fix the bulging corners. I had to wind down all the way to 40mm/s to almost, but not quite fix the corners.
Is it easier to work with classic jerk rather than junction deviation? (JD fixed any ghosting, but never the corners)

chimeranzl

I use Prusa Slicer and Super Slicer anyways, 10 times better than Cura. More powerful. The extruder upgrade looks good though.

NanoReeferKeeper

Thank you for your teachings Dr. you are amazing and I learn and stay focused.

Bob Glover

Been watching and listening for a while now... What effects would these have on a Wanhao Duplicator i3+ ???.. That is what I have and it seems to be a pretty stable printer, but would like to actually use your advice.

mediasync stephan scharf

Switching off acceleration+jerk in Cura does only switch off the Cura specific settings. Means in this case the values of your Marlin software are valid. So your printing results are farther affected by your printer firmware settings for acc.+jerk.

Asger Vestbjerg

Nice tricks
Thanks for sharing :-)

TeJoTa Tiro Esportivo

hi vax, how are you? so, i have ratraction problem with my ender 5, alot strigns im my tests, can you show me what configuration you use in cura? please

slgorin

Do you have any cura profiles to share?

I'm not a big fan of Turkey but this look juicy and delicious. I love smoke Turkey. Another a awesome video and ideas. Its true I even see people not washing ribs and beef apparently to them it's loosing it's values. This is why I don't eat from people. I am very skeptical and I dont know know meat that mixed together with other meat and fall on the ground at the butcher shop. Lamb the same thing. When I wash my garlic and parsley some of my friend telling me I shouldn't. I wash everything I don't care what it is

Hi Ms Juliana, that turkey was well seasoned, and I’ve always seasoned lightly, because I felt I might put to much seasoning, and it wouldn’t taste good. Could I use fruit in my turkey besides vegetables sometimes, or would that not go well? Because I really like for my turkey to be really juicy. Good fixings Ms Juliana, I feel like this year will be a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving for everyone. Peace ✌️ blessings and love ❤️HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and your family, and my prayers are with you all. Shalom
